Broughton Astley Parish Council secured a grant in the form of 50 sapling trees to be planted in a conservation area of the village. These consisted of Oak, Hazel and Crab Apple. BAVG secured an extra 20 Oak bringing the total to 70 trees.
With the help of some willing volunteers from our conservation and gardening teams, we planted most of the trees – in staggered Covid regulation time slots – in the far corner of the field behind the 3G football pitches. This area will eventually become a natural wildlife area.
The trees were planted with advice from CC tree planting experts and although may seem close together, they may not all grow, some may be damaged by wind or animals and others can be thinned out later. This was the best way to create a small wooded area in this section of the field. A few trees have been reserved for planting in other areas of the village by the Parish Council.
